New Halem Campground, North Cascades National Park, New Halem, WA
Master Plan and Site Design
In the late 70’s the National Park Service determined they needed a new campground in North Cascades National Park. New Halem Campground located near the Skagit River would be the largest National Park campground with over 130 campsites. It was designed to minimize the environmental impacts while allowing the visitor to experience the best of the spectacular Northwest setting.
The campsites are located and the roads aligned to avoid removing any old growth trees and to take advantage of the natural topography. The architecture and other amenities are crafted of natural and native materials and sympathetically placed in the landscape.
